Book Review: Not the Kind of Earl You Marry

Not the Kind of Earl You Marry by Kate Pembrooke

I have to admit, I always told myself that I was a contemporary romance gal, and that I really didn’t like historicals. This was based on a couple of regency reads a long time ago that really didn’t float my boat. But I can tell you that the titles being published by Forever have been changing my mind about the genre. They gifted me a copy of Not the Kind of Earl You Marry, and it was a delight!

The story opens with an engagement announcement in the local paper, which surprises both William, Earl of Norwood, and the young lady to whom he is supposedly betrothed, Charlotte. I loved this surprise/fake engagement plot and was on board with it from the start. Charlotte is a quiet, intelligent, sensible bluestocking and William is thoughtful and swoony and is definitely the kind of earl I would marry. The banter between these two is funny and charming. Reading their letters to each other was a treat. The supporting cast of characters was enjoyable, and I’m hoping that several of them get their own books.

And let’s not forget the smoking hot chemistry between our leads! 🔥🔥🔥 It’s a slow burn, but once things get to the bedroom it’s totally worth the wait.

This is book one in the Unconventional Ladies of Mayfair series, and I can’t wait to dive into book 2!
